Lord of the Rings Online

anyone else in the beta?  they dropped the nda a little while ago.  its a pretty fun game.  Ive got an 18 dwarf guardian on brandywine by th name of kerik.  I think theyre having an open beta that starts the 30th of march, but it may just be be for the pre order types.  lemme know if anyone else is playing lotro :)

Re: Lord of the Rings Online

Hey Paw!  I haven't followed it much actually.  Can you give any sort of description of how it plays and what sort of things you do?  Anything that particularly catches you?  What kind of system requirements does it have?

Re: Lord of the Rings Online

well the game runs decently on my 5 year old computer - 1.8 ghz, 1024 mbs of ram, 128 mb radeon 9800 graphic card.  so getting a new computer to play this game isnt necesarry.  I do however play on the lowest quality setting to cut down on lag but It plays ok on the medium setting.  I havnt tried any higher setting.   but the graphics look quite nice at the low setting.

As far as gameplay the UI feels and looks alot like WoW but thats not a bad thing.  The quest givers have a ring icon above their heads so you dont go looking for quests.  The quests themselves are fantastic.  there are 'the go get 5 of this' type of quest but also alot of quests which are fairly indepth.  and then theres the, I guess, epic quest line where you find Strider and do what he asks which moves the story line of the members of the fellowship along which is pretty cool.

to get out of the newbie instances you go on a quest in which you meet up with a Ranger or Elrond or Gimli and Gandalf.  depends on your race.

Its an entertaining game and assuming I can scrounge up the 50 bucks befor eit goes live in late april I plan on buying it, espicially since if you preorder you have a 9.99 a month payment plan option, which is nice.

The various locales all have nice feels to them.  The Shire is definetly a different place than Bree or Thorin's hall.  I havnt really done much with the elves in case Tal Kor decides to hop into the game and play as Elves so I didnt want to be redoing everything when the game goes live :)

The games classes are fairly unique as theyre arent the common fair - theres no clerics or heavey caster types as thats not in the lore for common people in the books.  Instead the minstrel class is the healer type and the loremaster, which I havnt played, seems like a pet class with some other stuff for crowd control but I'm not positive.  The melee classes, the guardian and champion are the basic tank and dd classes, with the hunter thrown in for long range damage.

I like my guardian but I recently made a minstrel to see what that was like and with the minstrel's chants he plays like a healer/damage dealer uses chants and songs instead of spells.  its pretty neat.  As mentioned earlier I think I'm going to get it as Ive only got two classes to take this summer and then I graduate :)

Re: Lord of the Rings Online

Just FYI... Landroval is the un-official RP server.  Turbine doesn't have any plans to make official RP servers like the EU distributor has (they designated an English, French, and German server for each language in the EU).

So in general, Landroval is the RP server. I plan on making a character on there to see how it is.  From what I hear, it's hit or miss, but the Hobbits are easily the most saturated with RPers at the moment.  Evidently they've already had parties with singing and such.

Re: Lord of the Rings Online

Hey Paw.  Yeah, we're planning on playing it.  Caryn and I won't play as often as we used to due to a pretty hectic RL situation at the moment.  Thaeral picked it up and is planning on playing it too I believe.

Re: Lord of the Rings Online

How is this game doing? I played the beta and I was not overly impressed with it. I hope it has changed since then.
